SHOEMAKERS in Ariaria market have expressed worry over the state government’s plan to bring a foreign investor who would produce shoes in Aba to compete with local shoe-makers. Some shoemakers who spoke with Vanguard in Aba yesterday in separate interviews said that the arrangement would strip them of their little income and make them jobless. Ikedi Ohaeto, said that the government may benefit from the taxes the investor would pay but noted that the investor would in turn take the made-in-Aba shoe market away from them. The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, has announced the complete payment of a N450 billion debt it owed the Nigerian government. The Corporation's April 2017 monthly financial and operations report was made public on Wednesday and it revealed that the last tranche of the debt sum was paid in March 2017. The document revealed that the corporation was paying the Nigerian government N6.33 billion on a monthly ba sis for several months. To this end, the NNPC said it transferred N95.56 billion into the Federation Account during the month under review from the net domestic crude oil and gas receipt, including gas receipts of N2.23 billion. The Federation Accounts Allocation Committee, FAAC, had in September 2011, resolved that the NNPC should refund over N450 billion in 32 installments after the NNPC said it withheld the money that should have been paid into the Federation Account as stipulated by law. The notorious kidnapper that was arrested  along with six members of his gang in Lagos, by police operatives from the intelligence teams has named some of his victims. Chukwudidumeme Onuamadike, alias Evans, told detectives that though he could not remember the number of people he kidnapped or the amount of money he collected as ransom, he was, however, able to mention a few.
